Here are some updates in light of COVID-19 from ministries that ReCAST supports.
Kalamazoo Gospel Mission
Dear Faithful Partner,
In light of the Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order, we wanted to update you on how this effects Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries. HERE is an excerpt from the order.
To work or volunteer for businesses or operations (including both and religious and secular nonprofit organizations) that provide food, shelter, and other necessities of life for economically disadvantaged or otherwise needy individuals, individuals who need assistance as a result of this emergency, and people with disabilities.
This means we will stay open for those who need us most.
With public places closing their doors in compliance, you can probably imagine, KGM is the last resort for individuals/families who are homeless and in need. Other area organizations have implemented limits on their capacity, and in turn, we are seeing an influx of guests seeking a place to shelter, both during the day and at night.
To accommodate this influx, we have temporarily suspended some areas of ministry to fully staff the most vital departments within KGM. This includes Men’s Shelter, Women’s and Children’s Shelter and Food Service.
How you can help.
We believe in the power of prayer and are currently trusting God for His protection, His provision and a sense of peace through this crisis. Every day we are met with new challenges and we lean on our Heavenly Father to help us make wise decisions to keep people healthy and safe.
Many guests are not only dealing with the restrictions, but also dealing with a wide array of other challenges. Would you please pray for staff and guests today? They need God’s help to get through the coming weeks.
We are in need of cleaning supplies. Hand sanitizer, cleaning products, gloves and masks are much appreciated.
We are in need of disposable “to go” meal boxes. Many have stepped up and donated, but we continue to serve over 400 meals a day.
Under the Executive Order, volunteers can still serve. If you are healthy and comfortable serving, we need help in Food Service, Women’s Shelter and Men’s Shelter. Visit our website to sign up.
Finally, you can help us by giving financially to continue to keep the lights on and pay our staff for the critical work they do. Every donation that comes in is a blessing.
Thank you for continuing to stand with us through this crisis. Knowing we have your support helps us continue to serve our neighbors at this level. We are praying for you and your family.

Wings of God
As Co-Founder and Executive Director, I wanted to personally thank you and let you know how much we appreciate your love, prayers, donations and financial support. Our prayer is for you to stay healthy, and for your immune system to be strong, but mostly that we all increase faith as we triumph through these ever changing waters. God Bless you with His wisdom as you discern His best in all situations.
We also want you to know that Wings of God is following the lead of distancing ourselves from the Public to protect others as well as our Pearls (Wings of God residents) and Staff. Our committed staff considers the Pearls family and will continue to serve as long as possible. We have a calling and will trust the Lord through this. We have also started the process to actually still have classes in-house through an internet based provider. Our counselors and mentors will be calling each Pearl and staying in touch. All visits/guests to Wings of God are discontinued until further notice.
The Pearls are handling the virus scare with hope, faith, fellowship and perseverance. We are not closing Wings of God, we will continue to provide the care needed and trust the Lord fully to continue to provide for us. We are completely in faith and dependent on our donors to continue to give donations for the Pearls and continue their programming and growth in Christ. We know that staffing is absolutely necessary for us so we will continue to provide the level of care needed to properly and lovingly be present for the Pearls.
Thank you for your continued financial support. We also know that our Lord is not just our provider, He is the PROVISION! Fear is an attack from the enemy, we place our full trust in Him and pray you are doing the same. Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you”. I pray this verse blesses your heart and serves as encouragement during this tumultuous time.
If you would pray for us, we need prayer for good health, wisdom, amazing Ah Hah Moments, and creative ways to draw closer to God. May God continue to bless you with His presence and comfort.
In His Hope,
Executive Director & Co-Founder
P.S Please feel free to share this email with friends and family as we continue to look out for one another in our community! HERE is a short video that shares what our mission is all about!
As you can imagine, our ministry at WMU and KVCC has been profoundly impacted. Everything is closed up, and most students have returned home. Thankfully, good things are still happening, and I would ask for your prayers…
- Students have been open to meeting for online bible studies, so please pray for Kevin, Trenton, Rodrigo, and Rocky ~ with whom I will continue to meet. I’m still working on setting things up with a few others.
- Please pray for Toma and Elliott. I met with each of them on Friday, and I felt the Holy Spirit working as these guys wrestled with the person of Jesus. Would you pray for their salvation?
Honestly, I believe that God is preparing the soil for a significant harvest…whether that be in the summer, the fall semester, or even sooner. This stay-at-home order has the potential to shake a false sense of security and raise thoughts to eternal things. I’m challenged myself, and I’m challenging our Christian students, to really pray for a harvest…and then be ready to share the gospel when things get back to normal. Would you join me in praying for a spirit of prayer now and a spirit of bold engagement when the opportunity arises?

Much has changed for us in the last few weeks. As you know the heart of our ministry is sharing the gospel and the truth of God with teens. We are currently not allowed to meet in person with teens. All of my ministry sites have been closed to all except necessary staff. We are doing our best to connect with teens in other creative ways.
As you probably know we were going into the second phase of our Capital campaign for our new youth center. The building project continues but our Capital campaign is on pause. We also had to postpone our Be The Story Breakfast which is our biggest fund raiser of the year. We are praying that God will continue to meet our on going financial needs.
We are also currently looking for a new office manager as our former one of many years is struggling with critical health concerns.
Pray that we can continue to minister to teens during this time through social media and other creative ways.
We are still moving forward with our camp ministry for this summer and seeking to raise funds for camp scholarships.
Please pray that God will continue to supply the financial needs of our ministry during this time.
All of our staff are still working from our homes during this time. Lots of planning and strategizing and continuing to reach to you the young people we serve.
Thanks for your prayers and support!
Mattawan Area Pantry
the Mattawan Pantry will be open 2 times a week while school is closed. We will be open Wednesday from 4-7pm and Saturday from 8:30-11:30 for the next few weeks including Spring Break. Those in need can come once a week through that time. We will have folks drive up and a volunteer will come to the car with a shopping list. The volunteer will then shop and pack the items to place in cars. We are trying to limit contact as much as possible. Having these two open days should limit our crowds. People will stay in cars.
**If you are a senior, ill or do not have transportation we can deliver. Please call or email the pantry to request this.
**At this time we are fully stocked so we aren’t taking food donations, but will possibly need some in the near future, please check back for updates.
We are grateful for the Mattawan community rallying together at this time! We are trying our best to work with the community and schools to help the needs so no one goes hungry!
