The Gift of Coffee

The story goes that a goat herder in Ethiopia found that his goats had more energy when they ate the berries of a certain plant, so then the shepherds steeped the berries and found that they were more alert and energetic, and now we can enjoy our large half-calf, sugar-free, caramel latte, with 2%, topped off with some whipped cream.  Whether the whole goat herder story is true or not, someone decided to pick, roast, and steep those berries in water.

God has made humans to be creative with this world.  And we have lived up to that calling.  We’ve smelted ore.  We’ve mined copper.  We’ve mastered aerodynamics.  We’ve built massive ships that float.  We’ve escaped the gravity of this planet several times!

And of all the amazing things, I am regularly thankful for my morning bean juice.  Coffee isn’t for everyone.  But coffee is for me.  I love the social aspect.  I love the focus it encourages.  And I love the atmosphere of a good local coffee shop.

This blog is not going anywhere other than to land at simple thanks for a simple thing.  God made this plant that produces these beans.  He is creative.  Humanity is creative.  And sometimes we stumble upon some good thing He has made.

Are you thankful for the morning bean juice?  If not, what is something that regularly causes you to give thanks to God?
