Unprofessional Pastors

Ben, Don, and Trent.  These are three guys that share the distinct privilege of being full-time vocational pastors at ReCAST Church.  Both Ben and Trent came to ReCAST from working in very different fields.  Ben was a teacher at a local Christian school.  Trent was full-time military.

Both began attending ReCAST before they ever considered becoming pastors.  They didn’t come through seminary.  Neither of them thought of pastoral ministry as something they had earned through grades or efforts.  Neither of them considered it a birthright and both came into the role with some reticence.

And they are by far two of my favorite pastors.  I actually think the best pastors are the ones who don’t take it for granted.  The best pastors know they are weak.  The best pastors are pretty shocked and surprised that God called them, equips them, and uses them!

I love these two guys.  We are more than co-workers . . . we are friends.  We share so much in common.  We love the Lord, we love His Word, we love His church . . . And we love a specific church!

I am grateful for two guys walking this journey of pastoral service alongside me.

In His great grace, God has provided two guys from within the congregation, to step up and join in the shepherding of ReCAST Church.  We may very well be the least professional pastoral staff in the Kalamazoo area . . . And that makes me smile.  Because God’s power is perfected in weakness.  And further, guys who think they deserve to be pastors scare me. Every morning I wake up as a pastor, I think . . . ‘Really God . . . Is this still working for You!?’.  And for the past 20 years He hasn’t said otherwise.

I hope both Trent and Ben are blessed by this heartfelt blog.  And if you appreciate the ministry of Trent and Ben, it would be awesome to reach out to them with some words of encouragement.
